The Lab conducts regular live fuel sampling at two sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We collect chamise and manzanita samples for gravimetric analysis in our lab. We upload LFM data to the Fire Environment Management System (FEMS). Data are also available at the SJSU Fuel Moisture Data Repository.

Analysis involves weighing a can of sampled fuels and marking the mass on a log sheet. Fuels are dried in an oven at 100C for 24hrs, then re-weighed to compute fuel moisture content.
